IP Codes

The IP value, also known as the IP code, indicates how water and dust proof a device is. The IP code consists of two digits. The first digit indicates the degree of protection against dust and the second digit indicates the degree of protection against water.

The first number in the IP code ranges from 0 to 6 and indicates how dustproof the device is. A value of 0 means no protection against dust, while a value of 6 means that the device is completely dustproof.

The second digit ranges from 0 to 8 and indicates how waterproof the device is. A value of 0 means no protection against water, while a value of 8 means that the device is completely waterproof.

Some examples of IP values are:

  • IP20: protection against dust entry, no protection against water
  • IP67: dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion
  • IP68: dust tight and protected against permanent immersion

Please note that the IP value applies to normal conditions of use, if there are extreme conditions such as high pressure water jets or high temperatures, the IP value is not valid.
